CHILDREN

Ages 5-12

Young children can struggle with an array of mental health issues. A lot of times these issues go unnoticed or get written off as puberty or them just being grumpy, because things like depression, anxiety, and trauma present differently in children than they do in adults.

TEENS

Ages 13 - 18

Teens are in that in between stage where they are still kids, but are starting to get more adult-like responsibilities and expectations put on them. Their brains aren't fully developed yet so even though many look or act more "mature", that doesn't necessarily mean they are. Just like with younger kids, mental health disorders may not present the same as adults, because they are not adults. While hormones do play a large part in teens mood/behavioral changes, they aren't always the culprit. Teens are under tremendous amounts of stress and pressure between school, home, and friends. Many don't have the coping skills necessary to navigate these stressors or are afraid to put their problems on a friend or family member so they hold it in.

FAMILY SUPPORT

Communication is the key to all relationships. A lot of times issues that arise are a product of a lack of healthy communication. Teaching kids skills is only one part of the puzzle. It's just as important that parents have an understanding of the same skills so they can help support their child at home. Parent check-ins are encouraged. I also offer resources to help parents gain a better understanding of what their child is going through and what supports they may need.

TEEN GROUP

Sometimes it is easier to learn skills within a group of your peers versus on your own in individual therapy. Teen group allows teens to do just that, plus gives them a chance to practice those skills in a social setting. Group is also a great opportunity for peer support and socialization. Skill work doesn't just happen through lecturing. Teens learn by applying the skills they're taught within the group in real time. Skills are also learned through playing games, art therapy, psycho-education, guest speakers, and the occasional field trip. It's a great way for teens to connect and thrive.
